Each carving on the Millennium Sapphire represents a great mind,
inventor or creator throughout recorded history. Every carving also
has an accompanying three dimensional figurine in lapis.

Each
period in history was researched and a prominent figure was chosen to
represent the spirit of that age. Artist Alessio Boschi oversaw the entire
design process–from initial sketches, placement on the sapphire and
the final carving. On the Millennium Sapphire, you will see representations
of important individuals like:
